  • 1 pint grape tomatoes
  • ½ red onion, chopped into small pieces
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, cut into cubes
  • Dill pickles
  • Crispy fried onions (found on the condiment aisle or in the produce section)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Peel and chop 4-5 medium-sized sweet potatoes into evenly sized small pieces.
  3. Line two large baking sheets with foil and spray them generously with cooking spray.
Roasting Sweet Potatoes
  1. Add the sweet potatoes to the sheets, drizzle each pan with about 1 Tb of olive oil, toss them in the oil, and spread them evenly.
  2. Bake the sweet potatoes until slightly charred on one side, which should take about 30 minutes.
  3. Halfway through roasting, stir the sweet potatoes and swap the position of the trays (top to bottom) for even cooking.
  4. Remove from the oven when they are a bit blackened along one side. Toss with salt, pepper, and seasoned salt.
Cooking the Burger
  1. Combine ½ small minced onion with 2 ½ pounds ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Break the meat apart with a spatula while it cooks.
  3. Once the meat is almost cooked through (no longer pink), add the seasonings, ketchup, and mustard. Stir everything together and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
Preparing Toppings
  1. Chop your romaine lettuce, purple cabbage, red onion, and grape tomatoes.
Mixing the Sauce
  1. In a glass measuring cup, combine all the sauce ingredients and stir until fully blended.
Serving
  1. Once everything is ready, set out all the components for a DIY bowl setup.
  2. Let friends or family build their own bowls, drizzled with sauce and topped with crispy onions.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider marinating the ground beef with the seasonings for at least an hour before cooking. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference. To save time, prep the sweet potatoes and burger mixture in advance and store in the fridge until ready to cook.
