Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6 medium very thin steaks (chicken, blade, or round steaks) These cuts promise to soak up all the flavors while becoming wonderfully tender.
  • 1 cup thinly sliced mushrooms Adds an earthy flavor to the dish.
  • 1 medium white or yellow onion, thinly sliced Sweetness caramelizes beautifully during cooking.
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic Adds a fragrant layer to the gravy.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential seasonings that elevate the flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning Brings an aromatic kick.
  • 1 cup beef stock Adds moisture, ensuring the steak is tender and juicy.
  • ¼ cup flour Used for thickening the gravy.
  • 2 tablespoons oil For sautéing, enhancing flavors.
  • ½ cup heavy cream Transforms the gravy into a rich delight.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped Provides a fresh finishing touch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the steaks directly into your slow cooker.
  2. In a oiled skillet, sauté the sliced mushrooms, onions, and minced garlic over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until tender and fragrant.
  3. Transfer the mushroom and onion mixture on top of the steaks in the slow cooker. Sprinkle salt and pepper on top to taste.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the beef stock, flour, oil, and Italian seasoning until smooth. Pour this mixture over the contents in the slow cooker.
Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-6 hours until the steaks are tender.
  2. About 10-15 minutes before serving, stir in the heavy cream. Cover and cook on high until heated through.
  3. Taste the gravy and adjust the salt and pepper as needed. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider browning the steaks before placing them in the slow cooker. This adds an extra layer of savory depth. Customize with vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for additional texture. For spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
