Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt for the topping.
- Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and rub it in until small crumbs form, then refrigerate the topping.
- In the greased baking dish, layer the chopped apples and cranberries.
- Sprinkle the sugars, flour, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, orange zest, and orange juice over the fruit, then toss to coat evenly.
Baking
- Spread the crumb topping evenly over the apple and cranberry mixture.
- Bake in the oven for 45-55 minutes until the apples are tender and the filling is bubbling.
- Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of ice cream.
Notes
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a richer flavor. Let the crisp cool slightly before serving for better shape. Optionally, add chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
