Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 cup of flour. Stir until you have a smooth batter.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper into the batter. Set aside to rest for a few minutes.
- Skewer each hot dog carefully with a skewer.
- Prepare your coating station with 1 1/2 cups of panko breadcrumbs on one plate and 1/2 cup of flour on another.
Coating the Corn Dogs
- Coat each skewered hot dog in flour, then dip it in the batter, and finally roll it in panko breadcrumbs. Repeat for remaining hot dogs.
Frying
- In a deep pan, heat 2-3 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
- Carefully place the corn dogs in the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Remove corn dogs from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder or chili powder to the batter. For a thicker coating, double-dip the hot dogs in batter and panko. Maintain a consistent oil temperature for even cooking.
