Cooking Instructions
- Start by adding the ground beef to a large saucepan. Season with approximately 1 teaspoon of Creole seasoning and cook over medium-high heat.
- Once the beef is mostly browned, add the chopped onions and cook until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Drain off excess grease.
- Add the rice, chopped cabbage, tomato sauce, water, and undrained diced tomatoes. Stir everything together until well combined.
- Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pot.
- Allow the casserole to simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Once the cooking time is up, top with shredded cheese, cover, and let sit for a few minutes until the cheese melts.
Notes
For extra flavor, add minced garlic with the onion. For nutrition, toss in additional vegetables like bell peppers or spinach. For a spicier kick, add hot sauce or more Creole seasoning.
