Ingredients

For the Taco Filling
  • 16 oz ground beef (92% lean) Tender and juicy, this beef will be the heart of your tacos.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice Adds a zesty brightness that lifts the flavors.
  • ½ teaspoon lime zest Enhances the lime flavor with aromatic oils.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder Provides a rich and savory base.
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder Brings a warm kick of heat and spice.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Enhances the savory profile with sweetness and depth.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano Adds an herbaceous touch that complements the beef.
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt Essential for enhancing all the flavors.
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin Adds a warm, earthy quality.
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper Introduces a pleasant heat.
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper Adds a subtle spiciness.
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika Imparts a rich, smoky flavor to the mix.

Method

Preparation
  1. Using a box grater, zest your lime to release its aromatic oils. Then, using a fork, juice the lime, ensuring you capture all the tangy liquid.
  2. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and allow it to warm up. Once hot, add the ground beef. Let it brown nicely, breaking up any large chunks with a sturdy spatula.
  3. When the beef is about three-quarters cooked through, sprinkle in the garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, cumin, cayenne pepper, black pepper, lime juice, and lime zest. Stir everything to combine well and cook until the meat is fully browned and the spices are aromatic.
  4. Scoop the zesty beef into taco shells and serve with fresh salsa, shredded cheese, creamy avocado slices, crunchy radish slices, fresh cilantro, and a generous dollop of Hood sour cream for that perfect creamy finish.

Notes

For best flavor, don’t rush the browning of the beef. Customize the heat level by adjusting the cayenne pepper. Experiment with toppings like pickled jalapeños or mango salsa.
